I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina. I have received a Certificate in Eating Disorders from Plymouth State University and attended eating disorder conferences with the Renfrew Center and Harvard Medical School. I also completed a course on Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and courses on coping with life threatening illnesses and loss, provided by the National Cancer Institute.

When Wildflower Center for Counseling was established there was a strong desire to create a homelike atmosphere – welcoming, comfortable, and lacking the rigidity which can often be present in doctor offices. After all, if honest and potentially vulnerable conversations are to take place naturally, a setting which facilitates those experiences is imperative. However, the atmosphere is only part of the equation – the other part is me!

Welcome, I’m Jennifer Higley! Therapist to some of the most remarkable individuals and mother to three incredible fur babies. I dream about a world where compassion would be as contagious as yawns and I miss the starry nights in front of the bonfire at camp. I appreciate people who give Charlie Brown Christmas trees a chance and admire those who are willing to admit their faults. I hope to travel to Greece and to successfully care for my own garden. I like perfectly ripe avocados, new tennis shoes, and fall leaves. I make mistakes and I am ever evolving. I, too, am human.

Professionally, I have experience working with adolescents and adults in both outpatient and residential settings. I have worked with individuals who suffer from symptoms of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. I also specialize in working with individuals who have experienced traumatic events, loss, and life threatening illnesses. No matter what life has thrown your way, know that you are capable of growing in all the places people thought you never would. {Just as the captivating, resilient wildflowers do}.

Pull up a chair, take a deep breath, and know that you’re here for a reason. You’ve made it home!
